Yesterday, Israeli forces stormed a Palestinian village to destroy their water well. The well was essential for their homes, crops, and olive trees. A number of young men and the elderly were injured by the occupation forces while trying to protect their right to water.
In occupied Palestine, drilling new wells, installing pumps or deepening existing wells is illegal for Palestinians, in addition to being denied access to rivers and springs. Israel even prohibits the collecting of rain water, and cisterns owned by Palestinian communities are often destroyed by the Israeli army.
While Palestinian taps run dry and access to safe and clean water sources are destroyed, settlers enjoy unlimited water and swimming pools.
In Gaza, 97% of the water is not safe for human consumption due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and intentional Israeli sabotage and bombings of water and waste treatment plants
